about

cheryl bernadette chow (周卓穎) was born and raised in the neon bustle of Hong Kong. she is a musician (singer, songwriter, producer, pianist, guitarist), and releases music under the name cehryl.

cehryl has briefly lived in England during her final years of high school, and has completed her bachelor's degree in Music Production & Engineering at Berklee College of Music, Boston.

she has always had an obsession with writing things from a young age, from parody novellas to sloppy screenplays to short piano compositions for her grandmother. her discovery of songwriting became a loyal obsession over the years. she cites Chet Baker, Amy Winehouse, Chopin, John Mayer, Fleetwood Mac and Frank Ocean as her biggest musical influences.

as a solo artist, she has released two EP's ("chamber music" in 2015, "delusions" in 2016) and multiple singles, available via online streaming services. she has also released a joint EP with electronic songwriter/producer kwame ("does this make sense" in 2016) as well as many other collaborative projects that are listed here.

other than music, she is also obsessed with film (hence film-making) and photography. some of her original films and works of photography are featured here on this website.

to get in touch, you may email her at cherylchowmusic@gmail.com.

STILL/LOUD MAGAZINE:
FINDING A SPACE FOR THEIR MUSIC, FROM HONG KONG TO BERKLEE

Both from Hong Kong, cehryl and Kiri T. went to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, a college of contemporary music, in search of spaces to grow. But if there is freedom to be found there, would they want to return?

Interview on itchysilk:
dramatic romanticism

Born in Hong Kong with inspirations ranging from names like D’AngeloAmy Winehouse and Radiohead, 21 year-old Cehryl is fresh like a new shoot on a spring day in terms of her musical journey.

It’s evident however that her young age is not an apt signifier of her talent and any notions of some unseasoned singer pushing out a series of mediocre but promising bits of material would probably not be a true reflection. Her current material already shows a talented artist- her soundcloud showing a depth with degrees of experimentation punctuated by rnb type sounds right through to tracks with more of a folk, down tempo edge.

EVERYDEJAVU: CEHRYL IS A CINEMATIC ARTIST ON 'DELUSIONS'

Since I’ve known of her, cehryl has dropped scattered singles on her SoundCloud, as well as collaborated with producers that challenge her boundaries. But this isn’t what the Boston artist is best at. She’s an adept producer of whole-bodied projects and she released her latest on Friday called Delusions

INDIECURRENT: CEHRYL'S DELUSIONS EP IS A STARK, TRAP-SOUL CONFESSIONAL

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Cehryl is an emerging young female artist who wrote, produced, recorded, mixed and mastered her newest project, Delusions. An emotional foray into R&B, soul, jazz, trap and beat music, the 10-track EP was conceived after her second year at Boston's Berklee College of Music, completed just over a month later. When we spoke on the phone last week, Cehryl made a point of noting how shy and generally introverted she is, how that informs the independent nature of her solo music. It's all her's-every lyric, every beat, every melody.
